The Rescue Diver is much more than just a diving course – it is a complete training in emergency management and rescue.

 

You will learn to identify and manage stress in other divers before it becomes critical.

You will develop your ability to intervene effectively in emergencies, both at the surface and underwater.

You will master the 10 essential rescue techniques and practice 2 realistic and demanding emergency scenarios.

You will prepare an emergency assistance plan for dive sites – a valuable skill for responsible divers.

You will learn first aid procedures specific to diving accidents and the administration of emergency oxygen.

This course prepares you to become the ideal dive buddy and represents the final step before the Divemaster level.

COURSE STRUCTURE

10 dives split on 3 days

Course Content :

  • Theoretical training with final exam

  • 10 progressive rescue exercises

  • 2 complete rescue scenarios in open water

  • Emergency Assistance Plan (EAP)

Schedule :

Day 1 :

  • Learning 10 rescue exercises from the beach

 

Day 2 (Morning) :

  • 2 dives + 4 accident scenarios

Maximum Depth :

The depth limit for a PADI Rescue Diver depends on your previous certification level authorizing the greatest depth.
Training depth does not necessarily exceed 15 meters.

 

 

Prerequisites :

  • PADI Advanced Open Water certification or equivalent (mandatory)

  • PADI Emergency First Response (EFR) certification or equivalent, valid within the last 24 months

  • Minimum age: 12 years (Junior Rescue Diver) / 15 years (Rescue Diver)

  • Minimum of 9 logged dives in your dive logbook

YOUR RESCUE TECHNIQUES :

You will master the 10 essential rescue exercises:

  • Self-Rescue :
    Master survival reflexes: cramp release, buoyancy control, access to alternate air, managing panic.

  • Assisting Tired Divers :
    Recognize a tired diver at the surface or underwater. Learn safe and effective towing techniques.
    Provide assistance without creating a double emergency.

  • Managing Panicked Divers :
    Recognize signs of stress and panic.
    Approach and secure distressed divers safely at the surface and underwater.

  • Unconscious Diver at the Surface :
    Evacuation and rescue procedures at the surface.
    Artificial respiration techniques, maintaining positive buoyancy, and towing back to the boat while applying rescue procedures.

  • Unconscious Diver at Depth :
    Search and locate a missing diver.
    Safe ascent techniques for an unconscious diver.
    Manage buoyancy and monitor the diver’s condition.

  • Search and Rescue :
    Surface search patterns.
    Compass use for underwater searches.
    Procedures for locating missing divers.

  • Specialized First Aid :
    Recognize diving accidents: lung overexpansion, decompression sickness, barotrauma, narcosis, etc.
    Emergency oxygen administration.
    Practice mouth-to-mouth and CPR.
    Prepare an emergency evacuation plan.

  • Psychological Management :
    Stay calm under stress.
    Make the right decisions under pressure.
    Assess risks and limits of intervention.

  • Team Exercises :
    Work in pairs whenever possible for emergency management.
    Coordinate communication underwater and at the surface.
    Assign roles and responsibilities during a rescue.

  • Realistic Rescue Scenarios :
    Full simulation of diving accidents.
    Apply all learned skills.
    Final evaluation of your ability to respond in emergencies.

 

DIVING CONDITIONS :

The Hat Nappa Thara – Moo Koh Phi Phi National Park offers ideal conditions for rescue training.
Shallow sites allow progressive practice in safe conditions.

 

 

PRACTICAL NOTES :

  • A 600 baht Marine National Park fee is added to the course price.

  • For additional dives, the fee is 200 baht per day.

  • No fee is required for beach training dives.

  • Important: To be certified as a PADI Rescue Diver, you must have completed Primary Care (CPR) and Secondary Care (First Aid) training within the past 2 years.

  • If not, you can complete the EFR (Emergency First Response) certification with us before or during the Rescue Diver course.

  • Equipment includes SCUBAPRO regulators and SCUBAPRO/AQUALUNG BCDs.

  • We dive in small groups to ensure personalized service and constant supervision.

  • Please complete the medical form to confirm you are fit for scuba training.

  • Physical requirement: This course is more demanding than previous levels. Good cardiovascular fitness is recommended.
