PADI Deep Diver Specialty

The Deep Diver Specialty teaches you the essential techniques, planning, and safety procedures for exploring wrecks and other deep sites, such as those encountered on liveaboard trips.

This intensive 2‑day course is ideal for certified PADI Advanced Open Water Divers who want to progress beyond 30 meters and master the unique challenges of deep diving.

Course Program – PADI Deep Diver

The PADI Deep Diver course is a complete training in managing the physiological and technical challenges of depth.

- You will learn to identify and control nitrogen narcosis (the “rapture of the deep”) at 40 meters.

- You will develop ultra‑fine buoyancy control in open water.

- You will plan deep dives with optimized air management and no‑decompression time.

- You will complete 4 dives designed to teach specific procedures for autonomous deep exploration.

COURSE STRUCTURE
4 dives split in 2 days

Course Content :

1–2 theory sessions with PADI knowledge review
4 progressive deep diving exercises
Narcosis test at 40 meters
Planning and independent execution of deep dives

Course Schedule :

Morning: 7:00 – 12:00

Afternoon: 12:30 – 17:30

Day 1 :

Morning or afternoon: 2 boat dives + exercises

Day 2 :

Morning or afternoon: 2 boat dives + exercises
Return: Dive logbook + PADI Deep Diver certification

Maximum Depth :

A PADI Deep Diver is certified to dive up to 40 meters (130 feet) with a certified buddy, anywhere in the world.

⚠️ Important: The additional 10 meters (30m Advanced Diver → 40m Deep Diver) represent a significant change due to the physiological effects of pressure at depth: narcosis intensifies, air consumption increases, and nitrogen saturation rises exponentially. Proper training is essential.

PADI Open Water certification or equivalent (mandatory)
Minimum age: 15 years
Recent diving experience (within the last 12 months strongly recommended)
Medical questionnaire required to confirm fitness for scuba training

YOUR DEEP DIVING SKILLS :

You will master the 8 essential skills of deep diving:

Deep Dive Planning :
Plan deep and successive dives.
Understand no-decompression limits.
Manage air consumption according to depth and dive time.
Evaluate your personal maximum depth.
Nitrogen Narcosis Management :
Recognize signs of narcosis (confusion, dizziness, slowed reactions).
Understand how it affects thinking and responses.
Apply management techniques.
Specialized Equipment Use :
Learn to use a dive computer and procedures in case of failure.
Manage BCD air volumes during deep dives, from descent to ascent.
Trim and Buoyancy at Depth :
Maintain a streamlined position to minimize effort.
Control buoyancy precisely, even mid-water.
Adapt buoyancy to significant pressure changes.
Perform controlled descents and ascents.
Controlled Descent and Ascent :
Use your dive computer and smallest bubbles as visual references.
Never exceed the maximum ascent rate (15–18 meters per minute).
Decompression Management :
Plan dives safely.
Know risk factors for decompression accidents and recognize symptoms.
Learn emergency stop procedures if no-decompression limits are exceeded.
Deep Navigation :
Master compass navigation and visual orientation at depth.
Return to the starting point even in reduced visibility.
Emergency Procedures :
Master air-sharing with an alternate regulator and assisted ascents.
Communicate clearly underwater with hand signals.
Stay attentive to your buddy for rapid assistance.

DIVING CONDITIONS – Koh Phi Phi :

Visibility: 15–40 meters depending on season (best: December–May)
Temperature: 28–30°C year-round (3mm shorty wetsuit recommended)
Currents: Generally mild and predictable
Marine life: Reef fish, sharks, turtles, octopus, nudibranchs, rays, and more

PRACTICAL NOTES :

Marine National Park fee: 600 ฿ (first day), 200 ฿ per subsequent day
Refresher dive recommended if you haven’t dived in 12+ months (can be included)
All equipment provided, but you may use your own if preferred
Dive computer included and mandatory for deep diving
Small groups: maximum 2 divers per instructor for constant supervision
Physical requirement: Deep diving is more demanding. Good cardiovascular fitness recommended.
Medical questionnaire required to confirm fitness for scuba training
