Thanks to its shallow, sheltered, and biodiversity-rich dive sites, Koh Phi Phi is one of the most favorable destinations in Thailand for divers of all levels, all year round.
The mangrove of Phang Nga Bay serves as a nursery for countless marine species. Sediment dispersal, mainly from the bay’s seabed, creates nutrient-rich waters, making this region one of the fishiest areas in Thailand.
Located at the mouth of this bay, Koh Phi Phi enjoys relatively clear waters that remain rich in sediments and plankton—the very foundation of the food chain. Generally, the clearer the water, the fewer nutrients it contains. Visibility ranges from 5 to 30 meters.
Dive sites around Koh Phi Phi offer a year-round balance between water clarity and fish abundance. Since 1983, the six islands of the Koh Phi Phi archipelago have formed a Marine National Park, providing an ideal refuge for a wide variety of reef and pelagic species.
Koh Phi Phi offers sheltered dive sites throughout the year. The Andaman Sea is rarely rough. Waves over one meter always come from the west and only during the low season (around May to November). In such cases, we dive on the east coast of Koh Phi Phi Leh.
There may be easterly winds, especially around February. Then we dive on the west coast sites, sheltered by Koh Phi Phi Leh’s high cliffs. Diving is possible all year round at Koh Phi Phi.
Water temperature ranges from 27 to 30°C.
During Thailand’s rainy season (May to November), it is rare for rain to last several hours. Usually, it either doesn’t rain at all, or only for half an hour to an hour during the day. Moreover, protected by Phuket from much of the bad weather, the Phi Phi Islands benefit from a microclimate favorable to pleasant holidays all year round. And anyway, rain is no problem for diving… it doesn’t rain underwater!
