King Cruiser Wreck
King Cruiser Wreck / Shark Point / Anemone Reef
*In case of strong currents, the third dive will be carried out in the Marine Park.
King Cruiser Wreck
– Minimum depth: 14 meters
– Maximum depth: 33 meters
– Visibility: 5 to 25 meters
– Current: weak to strong
– Length: 85 meters
– Width: 25 meters
– Weight: 2,250 tons
Launched in 1969 in Japan as MV Rokko Maru, this car ferry was purchased by a Thai company in 1990 and renamed MV King Cruiser. On May 4, 1997, during its regular route between Phuket and Koh Phi Phi,
it struck Anemone Reef about 20 km from Koh Phi Phi. All passengers were rescued by police boats and fishing vessels.
The wreck lies flat on its hull and shelters abundant marine life.
As the ship’s structures are now in poor condition, penetration is not recommended.
Shark Point
– Minimum depth: surface
– Maximum depth: 25 meters
– Visibility: 5 to 30 meters
– Current: weak to moderate
This site consists of three pinnacles aligned north–south. The northernmost pinnacle is the only reef emerging from the water for kilometers around. With a bit of imagination, the small rock at the surface resembles a shark’s fin—one theory behind the site’s name.
The site is extensive, but dives are mainly on the two northern pinnacles, which are shallower. The reef life is so rich that staying on a single pinnacle is enough for a full dive.
Anemone Reef
– Minimum depth: 5 meters
– Maximum depth: 25 meters
– Visibility: 5 to 30 meters
– Current: weak to strong
This reef, which sank the King Cruiser, is relatively small. In strong currents, it is difficult to stay sheltered for an entire dive, which is why this dive may be replaced by another in the Marine Park. Covered partly with anemones, the site is fascinating thanks to its dense reef life.
Schedule :
